Food And Nutrition – The Benefits To Our Health.

Food and Nutrition are the way that we get fuel, providing energy for our bodies. We need to replace nutrients in our bodies with a new supply every day.
Good nutrition is an important part of leading a healthy lifestyle. Combined with physical activity, your diet can help you to reach and maintain a healthy weight, reduce your risk of chronic diseases( like heart disease and cancer).

There are seven major classes of nutrients:

  • Carbohydrates
  • Fats
  • Dietary fiber
  • Minerals
  • Proteins
  • Vitamins and water.

These nutrients classes can be categorized as either macronutrient (needed in relatively large amounts) or micronutrients (needed in similar quantities).

What causes poor nutrition?

Poor eating habits include under or overeating, not having enough of the healthy foods we need each day, or consuming too many types of food and drink, which are low in fiber or high in fat, salt and/or sugar.

Humans get most of their nutrients from food. Essential nutrients are nutrients that the human body is unable to synthesize.
They must be obtained from food or water.
Essential nutrients include carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals.

Healthy eating means eating a variety of foods that give you the nutrients you need to maintain your health, feel good, and have energy.

Try to eat a variety of foods to get different vitamins and minerals. Foods that naturally are nutrient-rich include fruits and vegetables. Lean meats, fish, whole grains, dairy, legumes, nuts, and seeds also are high in nutrients.
