ALL AIR TRAVELERS TO GERMANY MUST PRESENT NEGATIVE COVID-19 TEST

The health ministry is requiring COVID-19 tests to be performed at testing centers no more than 48 hours before entering Germany.

In places that do not have the resources available to make that possible, airlines may test passengers or charge a third party to conduct the tests.

Nucleic acid amplification technology processes, such as the standard PCR test, and antigen tests are accepted. Rapid antigen tests are only acceptable if they meet the minimum criteria set out by the World Health Organization.

COVID-19 antibody tests are not accepted and travelers must retain copies of their negative test results for at least 10 days after entry.

Travelers who cannot present a negative test result will not be allowed on planes. The new regulation will be in effect until May 12.

Previously, only travelers from areas deemed high-risk by Germany were required to show a negative test result, but authorities are worried that German tourists are flocking to Mallorca for the Easter holiday after Germany removed the Spanish island as a high-risk area.
